As anyone who has done it will tell you, returning to work as a first-time parent can be incredibly challenging on so many levels (or even for the second, third, or fourth time). Those halcyon days of parental leave are behind you, and now you are faced with the juggle of work and keeping a small human alive. It can be a daunting prospect – but with the right support, the transition back into work can be a positive experience.
Alexa Bleecker, Kasada’s Director of Growth Marketing and Content Strategy, returned to work after the birth of her first child and took an ‘unforgettable’ 16 weeks of parental leave. She shares her experience with us:
How do you like your role before and after maternity leave?
I loved my role before I went on maternity leave, and now I love it even more. When I first started at Kasada, I was very vocal about the fact that I wanted to be a people leader. Before I went on parental leave, instead of getting a contractor to fill my role, we decided to hire two people on my team. This would not only help short-term while I was on leave, but it would be beneficial when I came back to work. I actually ended up going into labor on the day I was supposed to interview someone who is now on the team (thanks to Nolan arriving 2 weeks early!).
By the time I came back from leave, my new team was onboarded and had settled into their roles. I’m really grateful that I was able to have such a great experience to spend time with my newborn and a seamless transition back to work.
